Apple Plum Crisp

Most of the flavors of the crisp come from the apples, but the Italian plums lend some depth– and gorgeous color.

Apple Plum Crisp With Oatmeal Walnut Topping

Golden Delicious apples are among the best to bake with: they cook up crisp and tender and keep their sweet flavor.

Filling:

3 pounds golden delicious apples, peeled and thinly sliced

1 pound Italian plums, quartered

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup flour

1/2 cup sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

Topping:

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 sticks butter, softened to room temperature

1 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 cup oats

1 cup chopped walnuts

  1. Preheat oven to 375F; coat a 9 by 12-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Toss together the filling ingredients and transfer to the baking dish. In a clean bowl, combine the topping ingredients, working it with your fingertips until the mixture is in course crumbs. Sprinkle evenly over the filling.
  3. Bake for 45 minutes or until the filling bubbles up on the edges and the apples are very soft.

Makes 16 servings

Nutritional analysis per serving:

330 calories, 5 g protein, 50 g carbohydrates, 3 g fiber, 14 g fat, 6 g saturated fat, 23 mg cholesterol, 80 mg sodium
